REF #0007 - Technical Support Assistant (Permanent)

Overview

This role is in technical support for the DrayTek range of broadband routers, VPN devices, UTM firewalls, and VoIP products.

About SEG/DrayTek: You will be working for SEG, the distributor for DrayTek products in the UK. SEG was established in 1989. SEG is directly involved in the development of the products, so this is an opportunity to directly influence and be involved in new product testing and development. SEG is also responsible for the UK marketing, product documentation, warranty operations and distribution.

The technical support department is a friendly, busy and hard-working team. Working as part of the support team, you will assist users of the products with configuration, troubleshooting and general product queries.

This is an office-based (not field) role, communicating with customers mostly by phone and email. You will also conduct test, upgrade and repair of products within the service centre as well as other general office duties. You will advise customers pre-sales on the most appropriate products for their application and assist DrayTek dealers with the same; once a suitable product has been selected, you may also take the order. Although this role is primarily in technical support, all staff at SEG are multi-skilled and flexible, assisting other departments and personnel as required (within one's own ability).

With your existing experience as a foundation, in-house training will be provided to familiarise you with the specific product range, support methods and equip you to perform your duties. It may be a few weeks before you can directly support customers in real time, whilst you learn about the products.

Duties Include

  • Pre-sales assistance to select appropriate products
  • After-Sales support in configuring, installing or using products
  • Test, configuration, upgrading or repair of products
  • Training of dealers/users in product usage
  • Testing new prouducts at all stages of development
  • Preparing of technical documention
  • Web programming / design (if skilled)
  • Attendance at training meetings or exhibitions if required
  • Order taking & processing
  • Any other duties as required by the employer

Your experience

You should be familiar with and have working experience of using broadband hardware, firewalls, wireless LAN and similar devices. You will have previously worked in an IT support-related role. You will be familiar with ADSL, broadband, cable-modems, wireless LAN, firewalls, VPN, VoIP and general networking concepts (including TCP/IP, Ethernet, routing etc.). Ideally you will have worked in a technical support role already, though this is not essential if you have other relevant skills or experience. Skills or experience in web or other programming would also be useful (though not essential) for assisting with development of our web sites and internal systems (ASP, PHP, Javascript, HTML etc.). You should be educated to degree level (Batchelors) or equivalent, although this is not essential if you have very relevant experience/skills for the role.

Employment Eligibility: You must be either an EU national or already have the appropriate work permit to work permanently and full time within the UK. Please do not apply or contact us if you do not already have a full work permit for the UK (a student or tourist visa is not acceptable).

Work Hours: Normal working hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5:45pm. Paid Weekend or other overtime may be required sometimes, but is optional for all staff. 20 days paid holiday per year, plus all English bank holidays off. Seasonal bonuses and other benefits are discretionary, not contractual.
